Coley Park – The Walk

Historic Pathways Walk: Coley Park, Reading

This walk  starts from the Berkshire Records Office at the junction of Castle Hill and Coley Avenue.

Distance is approximately 2½ miles and there are no stiles.

This walk takes in the old 17th century manor of Coley, includes 19th Century brick works, a WWI RFC airfield (source of inspiration for the Biggles stories).  On the return leg we  pass the site of the CWS jam factory, (used as accommodation for the RFC), go past the 20th century south Reading GWR goods yard, along the K&A Canal to the malthouse of Simmonds Brewery.  We finish at an old coaching inn, next to the medieval Reading jail in the centre of Reading.
